There were goals galore in the SPFL Development League as Dundee and Motherwell fought out a seven goal thriller at Fir Park on Tuesday afternoon. The majority of those goals came early in the match as the teams shared five goals in an incredible first twelve minutes.
The match saw Luka Tankulic make his return from injury, putting in a good shift for the first 45 minutes which will have helped him in his recovery ahead of the run in to the end of the season. Kosta Gadzhalov also got some game time, completing the 90 minutes in the heart of the defence.
Motherwell started well but after hitting the bar with a header from a corner in the opening minute, Dundee took the lead with their first attack of the match. The ball being played into the feet of Craig Wighton who found the corner with a lovely finish from the edge of the box.
Three minutes later Wighton had doubled the lead when a corner was deflected into his path and he turned home. The two goal advantage lasted just over a minute when Ross MacLean got onto the end of a Steven Hammell pass and drove a shot past Calum Brodie.
Almost as quickly as they had fallen behind by two goals they were level as Dom Thomas got free on the left and hit a low shot home. The early scoring was complete when Dundee edged back infront after strong play by Lee Cameron before he prodded home.
The first half continued in the same end to end fashion but neither side could find the net again and despite Motherwell starting the second half well it was Dundee who hit the net five minutes in. Cameron’s cross was too tempting for both defender and goalkeeper who collided and knocked the ball into the net.
Just before the hour mark Dom Thomas hit back with another for ‘Well and despite having the ball in the net a further three times which were all chalked off for offside, Dundee ran out 4-3 winners in an entertaining contest.
