DEE DOWNED AT DUMBARTON

Gary Irvine and Gary Harkins made a welcome return to action at Dumbarton as Dundee’s Development team sought to do the double over Rangers. The Young Dees had beaten their Glasgow opponents earlier in the month at Station Park.

However, Rangers were out for revenge and the Ibrox side got off to the best possible start with a Kris Boyd goal just four minutes into the game.
He latched on to a ball over the top and his excellent finish beat Dundee keeper Calum Brodie.

Shortly before half time Dens defender Ben Priest had the misfortune to head the ball into his own net to as he tried to clear a cross from the left.
Irvine made way for Liam Gibb at the start of the second half as the Dens Parkers tried to fight their way back into the match. However, they were undone when Boyd notched his second and Rangers’ third goal with a neat finish from the edge of the box.

The Dens Parkers played some neat football after this and with 12 minutes of the match remaining Josh Skelly scored with a shot from just inside the area.

Craig Wighton then hit the bar but there was to be no comeback for the Dark Blues for whom Harkins played the full 90 minutes.
