CAMPY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD AS SUCCESSION STAR BRIAN COX OBE NARRATES EMOTIVE NEW STADIUM FILM
One of Dundee’s most famous sons, Succession star Brian Cox OBE, has lent his unmistakable voice to the Camperdown Stadium Project.
The multi-award-winning actor, who trained at the Dundee Rep Theatre, provides the narration for the latest film showcasing the benefits of the proposed new stadium.
Setting the scene on the evolution of the City of Discovery – from jute, jam and journalism, to the V&A, Eden project and Camperdown – Cox pays homage to the Dundee greats of the past with renowned wry humour.“Gilzean. Shankly. Cox – no, the other one,” he proclaims in reference to his cousin and Dens Park legend, Bobby.
Sepia-tinted footage of Dens Park’s Archibald Leitch-designed stadium is interspersed with sweeping visuals of the proposed new development with the promise: “Camperdown, a new place to call home for generations of Dundee supporters. The legacy of Archibald Leitch honoured; the spirit of past heroes inspiring tales of glory yet unwritten.”
In a stirring climax, featuring great goals and memorable triumphs in front of the Dens Park hordes, Cox summons the spirit of the legendary Sir Walter Scott with a line from the classic poem, Bonnie Dundee: “Come open your gates, and let me gae free…”
John Nelms, Director of Dark Blue Property Holdings and Managing Director of Dundee FC: “We are grateful to Brian for agreeing to provide the voiceover for this captivating piece of film, which in many ways is a Greatest Hits for Dens Park over the decades.
“We’ve said from the start of the Camperdown project that we will honour the memory of the Dens and pay homage to Archibald Leitch’s architectural brilliance in some of its design elements.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more illustrious local hero to sprinkle some Hollywood magic on the film and we have a few other surprises to excite fans within the coming weeks, hopefully culminating in a successful application for Planning Permission in Principle.”
Dark Blue Property Holdings Ltd have engaged with over 20 expert consultants to achieve a vision and seek planning permission for the building of the new Camperdown Stadium Project.
The proposed new multi-use event arena will comprise of:
o a 12,500-capacity stadium, adaptable to concert configuration
o a 1000-plus multi-use event space
o a 250-capacity taphouse
o a 120-room hotel with health and wellbeing facilities
Planning Permission in Principle was submitted to Dundee City Council and validated in February 2024 and the DBPH Ltd team of consultants have been involved in ongoing dialogue with both the council and Transport Scotland since then.
The application has also been amended to remove the need for a training academy within the development, due to a funding award from DCMS and the Scottish FA for the Dundee FC Community Trust to build a community training hub at Riverside.
