Cammy Kerr leaves Dundee FC.

Dundee Football Club can today confirm that Cammy Kerr has left the club.

Cammy has been with the club since the age of eight and worked his way through the youth ranks and into the first team. He would then go on to play 272 competitive matches for The Dee.

Cammy has been a tremendous servant to Dundee Football Club and he has given so much to the club.

Cammy we wish you all the very best for the next chapter in your career.

Below we pay tribute to Cammy and take a look back on his Dundee career.

Since getting his first professional contract over a decade ago, Cammy has played over a quarter of a century of games for the club, winning two SPFL Championships, one SPFL Premiership play-off, one DFC Player of the Year award, three DFC Young Player of the Year Awards, one DFC Man of the Match Player of the Year Award, one Goal of the Season Award and 35 Player of the Year Awards from individual DSA supporters club.

Cammy joined the Dundee FC Academy at the age of eight in 2003 and after working his way through the age groups, was awarded his first professional contract in 2012 by Dark Blues’ manager and Cammy’s idol Barry Smith.

On January 11th, 2014, Cammy made his Premiership appearance for The Dee when he came on as an 80th minute substitute for Kevin McBride in the club’s Championship fixture against Livingston.

At the end of that season, Cammy was presented on the pitch with the Isobel Sneddon Trophy for Dundee FC Young Player of the Year by Club President and 1962 Scottish League title winner Pat Liney.

In September 2014 Cammy made his Premiership debut when he came on as a sub for the injured Jim McAllister in Dingwall, just before the half time.

Three weeks later Cammy came off the bench again in a 3-1 win at Motherwell but manager Paul Hartley then decided it would be best for Cammy’s development if he went out on loan to gain regular first-team experience and headed north to League One side Peterhead for the rest of the season.

A successful loan spell saw Cammy turn out 22 times for the Blue Toon and he scored his first-ever professional goal with the winner in a 3-2 win at Stirling Albion in December. It was decided that Cammy might be best served going back to Peterhead until Christmas and the Blue Toon were only too happy to have him back. It turned out to be another successful spell at Balmoor as Cammy would win the Peterhead Young Player of the Year Award. After returning to Dundee, he would also win the Isobel Sneddon Trophy for Dundee FC Young Player of the Year in the same season.

Cammy was thrust straight into the starting line-up at home to Dundee United on January 2nd. Surprisingly he lined up on the right side of midfield, but Cammy took it in his stride and put in a man-of-the-match performance in the 2-1 win in front of a live television audience.

It was in season 2016/17 that Cammy would establish myself as a first-team regular. He started pre-season with both goals in a 2-1 win at Dumbarton, would start the first game of the season away at East Fife in the Betfred Cup and would go on to make a total of 41 appearances: the most of any Dundee player that campaign.

It was a momentous season for Cammy in more ways than one and it started with him changing his squad number from 30 to number 2. Then in November, he would score his first competitive goal for the club in a 2-0 win at home to Motherwell.

After a terrific campaign, Cammy won both the Isobel Sneddon Trophy for Dundee FC Player of the Year and the Andrew De Vries Memorial Trophy for Dundee FC Player of the Year. He was the first player to win the Sneddon trophy three times and the first Dundee player to win both the Young Player and Player of the Year in the same season and both were well deserved.

Neil McCann was appointed permanent manager in the summer and one of the first things he did was appoint Darren O’Dea as captain and Cammy Kerr as vice-captain.

It was a huge honour for the lifelong Dee and Cammy didn’t have long to take the captain’s armband himself when O’Dea missed the second game of the season at home to Buckie Thistle in the Betfred Cup through injury.

In 2019 James McPake was offered the Dundee manager’s job and one of the first things he did was offer the out of contract Kerr a new contract.  However, the season was curtailed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown, and subsequent football shutdown.

A truncated SPFL Championship season started in October after lockdown. Cammy started the season well, scoring in the fourth game away at Alloa. Cammy missed a large part of the season due to injury but returned for the closing stages of the campaign. After Cammy’s return, Dundee would be undefeated in the last four games of the season to secure the runner-up spot and would first face Raith Rovers in the Premiership play-off semi-final. An excellent 3-0 win at Starks Park all but ensured a place in the play-off final against the 11th place team in the Premiership, which would turn out to be Kilmarnock. A 4-2 aggregate win saw The Dee promoted back to the Premiership. For Cammy, it was his second promotion as a Dundee player.

Being back in the Premiership was tough however, and it took Dundee until October to get their first league win against Aberdeen at Dens; ten games into the campaign. Cammy turned out 41 times again but as The Dee slipped back into the Championship, it meant a third relegation in Kerr’s ten years at Dens.

From the ashes of relegation, however, rose a title winning season as the Dark Blues lifted the SPFL Championship trophy under Gary Bowyer. Cammy more than played his part, playing 38 times and adding four goals to boot, including a memorable winner at Partick Thistle after coming back from 2-0 down. He also made his 250th appearance for the club and claimed he now eyed Doug Cowie’s appearance record of 443.

In the 23/24 season, Cammy played 12 times for The Dee before leaving the club to join Inverness Caledonian Thistle on loan where he played 20 times for Caley. Unfortunately, the season did not end well for Inverness with them being relegated to league one via the play-offs.

In November 2023 Cammy received his testimonial match for over a decade of service to the football club. Celtic were the opposition for Cammy’s big match and it was the man of the night that scored the winning goal from the penalty spot with a few minutes to go. A strong Dundee crowd turned out to give Kerr the celebration he deserved and he received a standing ovation from the Dundee fans as he left the pitch.

Cammy’s time at Dundee Football Club now comes to an end but he will always be a part of the club’s history and will always be held in the highest regard.

Cammy Kerr thank you for everything that you have given to Dundee Football Club.
