The Dundee directors are delighted to welcome a special guest today as Bobby Ford joins them in the boardroom for the match with Partick Thistle.
Bobby played for The Dee from 1971 through to 1978, and was part of the side which lifted the club’s last major trophy, the League Cup in ’73.
He made his debut for the club in a 3-2 victory over Rangers in 1971. In front of 35,000 at Ibrox, Alex Kinninmonth, Gordon Wallace and Dave Johnston were all on the scoresheet.
Bobby’s first goal in Dark Blue came in a Dundee derby at Tannadice during his second season with the club.
In his third, he made over 50 appearances and lifted silverware with the club. 73/74 saw Bobby turn out 51 times for Dundee, including matches in the UEFA Cup. On December 15th, he played as Dundee beat Celtic 1-0 in the League Cup Final to bring the trophy back to Dens.
He was a regular for the rest of his time at Dens and arguably his most famous moment in Dark Blue came when he played in the opening weekend of the newly formed Scottish Premier League. Two minutes into the match with Aberdeen at Dens, Bobby found the net to go down in history as the first person to score in the Premier League.
Bobby left the club in 1978 with 260 appearances to his name and a League Cup medal secured and Dundee FC are delighted to have his as our guest at Dens today where Bobby will perform the half time draw.
