20s lose out to Hearts

It was a much improved Dundee performance in the SPFL Development League from recent weeks but the young Dark Blues lost out narrowly to Hearts at Links Park on Tuesday evening.

The kick off was delay due to the traffic issues with the Forth Road Bridge but the game went ahead an hour later than originally scheduled.

Dundee had first teams, Nick Ross, Danny Williams, Marc Klok and David Mitchell all in the starting eleven.

It was neat play between Ross and Williams which almost saw the scoring opened. Ross released Williams who took it round Paul Gallacher in the Hearts goal and looked set to tap into the net but the veteran keeper pulled off a remarkable save to keep to scores level.

Hearts took the lead just before the half hour mark, a cross from the right by Jamie Brandon was into the path of Callumn Morrison who took a touch before firing home.

Dundee leveled early in the second half when a Daniel Higgins ball into the box was headed goal bound by Ian Smith, Gallacher was on hand to stop the header but Mark Smith followed up to turn home.

Minutes later Smith had the chance to double his tally and put Dundee in front, a good bit of play saw the striker released and he kept his composure before slotting the ball just wide of goal with Gallacher beaten.

It would be the Edinburgh side who would leave with the points however when a counter attack saw Dylan Nguene Bikey sprint clear of the Dundee defence and find the corner of the net.

Dundee – Mitchell, Dryden, Quigley, Smyth, Waddell, Klok, Ross, Higgins, Williams, M. Smith, I. Smith. Subs – Gourlay, Coupe, Moore, Kemp
