18s off to winning start

Scott Robertson’s Under 18 side got off to a winning start to their league campaign with a win over Partick Thistle on Friday night.

It was a young Dundee squad that traveled which included four of the club’s U16 team. Tyler Shepherd starting in defence with Michael Hunter, Louis Gray and Alex Balfour named on the bench.

It was a fairly even match on a sunny night in the west end of Glasgow during the opening period but Dundee found the breakthrough after 20 minutes.

Aulay Martin found LEWIS CRAIK who fired a low right foot shot across the goalkeeper from the right of the box to get The Dee off the mark for the season.

The lead was doubled soon after, this time through the head of JAMIE RICHARDSON. A great bit of build-up play and a brilliant cross from right-back Aulay Martin saw Jamie Richardson rise highest to header into the net.

Dundee led 2-0 at the break but Partick hit back just four minutes into the second period.

A freekick to the hosts was cleared but only as far as the edge of the box and the strike comes from 22 yards out.

Partick drew level during the second half with a strike from the angle out on the edge of the box but it was Dundee who would find a winner in the late stages of the match.

The Dee took the lead again through another Aulay Martin assist, combined with a moment of magic from FINLAY ALLAN. Aulay Martin played a long ball in behind the Partick backline, which sees Finlay Allan race past them and lob the goalkeeper.

It was a hard-fought game as Partick Thistle came on strong in the second half. Scott Robertson’s side stayed strong and pressed for the winner, with Aulay Martin getting a hat-trick of assists. The Dee are off to a strong start to the season.
