Dundee Vs St. Mirren

A stoppage time winner meant St. Mirren left the Kilmac Stadium with all three points.

Connor Ronan’s header in the 92nd minutes gave the Paisley side victory in the twice postponed fixture.

When the teamlines went in there were two changes to the side who had earned a point at Fir Park on Saturday.

Luke McCowan and Niall McGinn returned to the starting line up in place of Shaun Byrne and Vontae Daley-Campbell.

There were still a number of players missing due to Covid related isolation and added to that in the build up was manager Mark McGhee.

He would have to settle with watching from home but was still in constant communication with the bench.

The issues continued to come in the build up and Lee Ashcroft who has just returned from injury had to pull out through injury during the warm up. Zeno Ibsen Rossi replaced him in the starting line up.

The first half hour of the match was lacking in any real goalmouth action. Dundee played some nice stuff but a Max Anderson deflected shot and a dangerous Cammy Kerr ball across the face were all they had to show for it.

Just after the half hour, the visitors had two big chances to take the lead.

Firstly, a ball up the left hand side saw Jordan Jones get onto it and after noticing Harry Sharp off his line he attempted to lift it over the young goalkeeper but his effort was right into his arms.

A couple of minutes later, Greg Kiltie got to the byline and cut it back for Brophy but his shot was blocked by Ibsen Rossi before Sharp grabbed the loose ball.

But for a couple of efforts from Jordan McGhee and Cammy Kerr that was pretty much it for the first period in the way of action.

Dundee started the second period on the front foot and after a quick free kick Marshall lifted the ball to the back post but McGhee sliding in just couldn’t make contact.

Shortly after it was a similar story but this time right in front of goal. McGinn’s wide free kick was headed down by Ibsen Rossi and McDaid was inches away from connecting but St. Mirren defender Joe Shaughnessy turned over his own bar.

On the hour mark, the Paisley side should have taken the lead. The ball was worked into Eamonn Brophy six yards out from goal, he has two bites at it but eventually, it was blocked but only into the path of Jones coming in who fired over with the goal gaping.

Dundee made two changes with Shaun Byrne and Zak Rudden being introduced in place of Luke McCowan and Declan McDaid but it was the visitors who continued with the pressure.

Tanser and Jones fired balls into the area but Sharp was equal to the deliveries.

The visitors kept up the pressure and despite Dundee having efforts through substitute Vontae Daley-Campbell and Niall McGinn it was them who would end the match strongest.

They thought they had won it with a minute remaining when Richard Tait headed home from a corner but a foul was given for a push. Three minutes later though the visiting fans were celebrating.

Jay Henderson whipped a fine ball in from the right and Connor Ronan was unmarked to head home two minutes into stoppage time to give The Buddies all three points.
