Derick Osei hit his first goal for the club as Dundee came from behind twice to earn a point at Ochilview against Queen’s Park on Friday evening.
Patrick Jarrett gave Queen’s the lead in the first half. After the break Paul McMullan got Dundee level but only for 30 seconds as Queen’s hit right back through Tommy Robson. Late on Osei struck to get Dundee back on level terms before Dom Thomas saw red for his protests of the goal.
Dundee lined up with changes for the side that drew with Morton last time out. Tyler French missed out completely through illness while Paul McGowan didn’t make the squad due to injury.
Queen’s had a couple of efforts early on as Thomas and Josh McPake shot over the bar.
After 13 minutes Dundee came so close to taking the lead as Ryan Sweeney headed McMullan’s free-kick inches wide.
The first moment of controversy of the match came after 21 minutes. Rudden was played in on goal and as Calum Ferrie came rushing out to deny there were protests that he handled outside the box but the referee appeared to get the decision right with Ferrie just inside the area.
Jordan McGhee and Zach Robinson both had efforts before Queen’s took the lead on the half-hour mark.
The hosts worked a throw-in from the left-hand side and it ended up in the net after Sweeney’s clearance hit Patrick Jarrett and went beyond Ian Lawlor.
Shortly after Robinson was replaced by Derick Osei after feeling unwell on the park.
After the break, Dundee hit back as Paul McMullan’s free kick from just inside the Queen’s half floated over ex Dee Calum Ferrie and into the net.
Frustratingly for Dundee, they were only level for 34 seconds as Tommy Robson drilled low into the net after coming in from the left-hand side.
Dundee pushed on looking for the goal to get them level, McMullan was inches from reaching a Rudden cross before Cammy Kerr shot wide.
Just after the hour mark, Dundee hit the woodwork twice. Osei ran through on goal only to see his effort hit the outside of the post and a minute later a loose ball into the box fell for McMullan who smashed against the bar.
The search for an equaliser went on and they found a way through in the 86th minute when Osei turned home Jordan McGhee’s ball across to level.
Queen’s protested to the point that Dom Thomas received a second yellow and his marching orders. The claims were for incorrectly arguing that Osei was in an offside position.
