Dundee’s final Reserve Cup Group match ended in defeat to Motherwell this afternoon despite a good performance from a young side.
Hosts Motherwell had the first two real chances of the match and both fell to Christy Manzinga.
The Steelmen’s striker forced Calum Ferrie into a save from a tight angle after 10 minutes of the match. On the half hour mark Manzinga was fouled in the area by Marton Hornyik and stepped up himself but saw his powerful effort cannon back off the crossbar and Dundee cleared.
The Dee were playing some good stuff and it would be them who broke the deadlock. Smart play from Lyall Cameron saw him play the ball in behind for Michael Cunningham to run onto and slot home.
Ferrie denied Motherwell half time substitute Jermaine Hylton with a fine save in the second period but couldn’t prevent him finding the net soon after.
Dean Cornelius got down the right and found Hylton with a cutback which was turned home.
Cameron then almost put Dundee back infront after good play saw him inside the box but his effort was pushed over the bar.
Motherwell would have the last say and gain all three points from the Reserve Cup match when Hylton turned provider for Paul Hale who beat Ferrie in the closing stages.
