Dundee advanced to the Semi Final of the SPFL Trust Trophy on Tuesday evening with a 4-2 victory of League One leaders Dunfermline.
Paul McMullan gave Dundee the lead before Lewis McCann levelled before half time.
On the hour mark, Finlay Robertson put Dundee back in front after a quick corner before goals from Luke McCowan and Max Anderson sealed the tie. There was time for one last goal as The Pars pulled one back through former Dee Craig Wighton with a spectacular consolation goal.
It was the visitors who had the first effort on goal with Kevin O’Hara’s low strike tipped round the post by Harry Sharp.
The first chance for Dundee came when Alex Jakubiak found Paul McMullan with a cross field pass, the winger got himself into a shooting position before firing over.
Another chance would fall for McMullan soon after and that time he made no mistake. A throw up the line towards Kwame Thomas saw Kyle Benedictus call for a foul but when the referee waved play on the Dundee new boy squared for McMullan who took a touch before finishing down the middle.
The lead would last less than ten minutes as Dunfermline broke and a perfect cross from O’Hara found McCann who bulleted a header home to ensure it was level at the break.
On the hour mark Dundee retook the lead. McMullan’s quick thinking from a corner played it to Josh Mulligan who pulled it back to the edge of the box where Robertson finished through a number of bodies.
Dundee all but sealed the tie with seven minutes remaining when substitutes Cillian Sheridan and Luke McCowan combined. The former flicking on a ball forward and McCowan reserved a shot into the goal from outside the box.
Into stoppage time and Dundee added a forth, Max Anderson this time, again from just outside the box finding the bottom corner.
The best strike of the night was still to come however, ex Dee Craig Wighton bending a left footed effort into the top corner giving Sharp no chance but it was to only be a consolation.
Dundee will now face Raith Rovers in the Semi Final at the Kilmac Stadium early next month with a chance to progress to the final of the tournament.
