Dundee v Motherwell
Saturday 5th August – 3pm Kick-Off
Kilmac Stadium
Cinch Premiership
Tomorrow is an exciting day for the club, it’s the first day of the 23/24 Cinch Premiership season as we take on Motherwell at the Kilmac stadium. Before kick-off the Cinch Championship winners flag will be unfurled celebrating last seasons success. The players and the coaches will be looking to get off to a winning start on Saturday and get three points on the board.
The visitors tomorrow are Motherwell and they too will be looking to take three points from the first match.
They are led into the 23/24 season by Stuart Kettlewell who was appointed permeant manager in February this year, and steered the club away from danger and to comfortable league position.
The last time the sides came up against one another was on 5th Match 2022 at Fir Park with the match ending 1-1. Paul McMullan scored for Dundee after six minutes that day before Jospeh Elford equalised ten minutes later. Dundee lined up that day with: Sharp, Kerr, Sweeney, Ashcroft, Marshall, Byrne, McGhee, Daley-Campbell, Anderson, McMullan, McDaid. Chapman and Josh Mulligan came off the bench in the match.
Motherwell like ourselves were also involved in the Group Stages of the Viaplay Cup. They were in Group G alongside, Queen of the South, East Fife, Queen’s Park and Elgin City. They defeated Elgin, Queen’s Park and East Fife and drew with 3-3 with Queen of the South before winning on penalties and earning a bonus point. The Well finished in top position and have been drawn away to St Mirren in the last 16 of the competition.
Team News
Charlie Reilly and Aaron Donnelly will miss the match due to injury. Tyler French has returned to full training. The rest of the squad are available and all in contention.
Tony’s thoughts
“I am really looking forward to Saturday, the first day of the new season and it’s exciting for the club being back in the Scottish Premiership. We are in a good place going into this match. Motherwell had good success at the end of last season under Stuart Kettlewell, he’s done a really good job there. They have an identity as a team, they play a 3-5-2 which they play well. So it is going to be a tough game, but we feel we are in a good place ourselves going into the game.”
Lee Ashcroft
“It’s going to be a tough game playing Motherwell as it always is. They’ve recruited well and they’ll be a tough opponent for us. As I say, we need to concentrate on ourselves to make sure we turn up and do things right. Hopefully, that will stand us in good stead and get us a positive result.”
