Fast Facts – Hearts

  • Hearts first visit to Dundee was in The Dee’s first season and they left West Craigie Park with a 5-2 win
  • Hearts first visit to Dens was on December 16th 1899 and a David Steven goal earned the Dark Blues a 1-1 win in front of 7000
  • Dundee first played Hearts over the festive period on December 27th 1894 at Carolina Port and the visitors left Juteopolis with a 2-0 win
  • Hearts’ current training facilities are at the nearby Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh
  • Hearts’ new manager Ian Cathro was Head of Dundee United’s Youth Academy between 2008 and 2012
  • Hearts were the third club to win back to back Scottish League Cups in 1959 and 1960 with Dundee being the first eight years earlier
  • Dundee’s last win over Hearts at Dens was on April 27th 2013 when a Ryan Conroy goal gave the Dark Blues victory
  • Hearts took their name from the Heart of Midlothian jail which was demolished in 1817
  • Hearts won the World Championship title when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Tynecastle after a 0-0 draw in London
  • The original Hearts strip was all white shirts and trousers with maroon trimmings, and a heart sewn onto the chest
