Dundee Reserves were back in league action today at North End Park but unfortunately, the young Dees suffered their first league defeat of the season. The defeat was inflicted by Ayr United Reserves who won 0-2.
Dundee had the first chance of the game when Wilkie swung in a free-kick but there were no takers on the ball in. However, after that Ayr United began to put pressure on the Dundee goal creating two good chances, before they broke the deadlock in the 17th minute. Senga crossed the ball into the box and picked out Bryden who headed the ball past Lynch and into the back of the net.
Dundee nearly got back level when a long ball from Lynch found Barnett who managed to get a shot on goal but the keeper saved.
Before the break, Ayr nearly doubled their lead, a long ball from Smith found Tomlinson but he fired wide.
Into the second half Ayr continued to create chances, firstly with Ecrepont and then Holding.
Dundee made a change just after the hour mark with Baird replacing Donald. Shortly after on the 67th minute, Ayr doubled their lead. Amartey received the ball in the box and slotted the ball past Lynch. The away side were comfortable for the rest of the match and they saw out their 2-0 lead. The young Honest Men left North End Park with all three points.
Next up for Dundee Reserves is a cup tie against Dundee United Reserves on Tuesday 17th October.
