Dundee Reserves were in action this afternoon in the Reserve Cup. They were up against Falkirk Reserves and due to the weather conditions the match was played behind closed doors.
Several senior players were involved in this match and it provided the opportunity for them to get important game time. Cammy Kerr, Scott Tiffoney, Josh Mulligan, Charlie Reilly, Finlay Robertson, Ryan Howley, Marcel Lewis and Jack Wilkie all started alongside development players Seb Lochhead, Ewan Murray and Tom Welsh.
Dundee found themselves behind after five minutes when Falkirk took the lead with their first shot on goal, which was slotted into the bottom corner. However, Dundee were back level seven minutes later when Tiffoney converted a penalty. Tiffoney scored again five minutes later, this time with his back to goal he backheeled the ball into the back of the net. Dundee scored their third on 24 minutes with a great free-kick from Kerr. The keeper got a hand to hit but Kerr’s shot was too powerful and found the back of the net. Dundee got another two goals before the break, Tiffoney completed his hat-trick with a cool finish and Reilly got his first of the game smashing the ball into the roof of the net. Dundee went into half-time leading 5-1.
On the hour mark Mohammed replaced Tiffoney. Five minutes later Falkirk pulled a goal back. Allan, Richardson, and Clark replaced Mulligan, Reilly and Robertson. The substitutes had an impact, first Allan scored with a looping header before Richardson took the ball past the keeper and put the ball into the back of the net.
The match ended Dundee Reserves 7 – 2 Falkirk Reserves.
It was a strong performance from Dundee and it meant several first-team players got important minutes.
