Dunfermline Reserves 1 – 5 Dundee Reserves – 7/11/23
Dundee Reserves were back in action on Tuesday in the cinch Reserve Cup against Dunfermline at Ainslie Park, home of Spartans FC. It was the second fixture in the group stage format of the cinch Reserve Cup. In the first match of the competition, Dundee Reserves drew 2-2 with Dundee United Reserves before winning on penalties where they earned a bonus point.
In the first match against United, a number of first-team players featured for the reserve side, whereas in the second match against Dunfermline, the team was made up of all players from the development squad.
Dundee got off to the best possible start when Euan Mutale opened the scoring after seven minutes and then four minutes later Mutale scored his second goal of the game. There were very few chances in the first half, but Dundee had two chances and took them and went into the break two-nil up.
The second half was much more action-packed with a lot more chances for both sides. Dundee came out after the break looking to add to their lead with chances for Donald and Clark in the first ten minutes. But on the hour mark Dunfermline got themselves back into the match through Jake Sutherland. However, seven minutes later Dundee restored their two-goal lead this time through Jamie Richardson who curled the ball into the top corner of the net. Two minutes later Richardson got his second of the game as he made it 1-4. Dundee still had one more goal in them and in the 76th minute Rayan Mohammed scored the fifth, he initially hit the post but followed it in and knocked it into the net.
It was a great victory for the young Dee’s and it sees them move top of their reserve cup group on five points. Behind them is Dundee United on four points, then Falkirk on three points and Dunfermline at the bottom on points.
Dundee’s next match in the reserve cup is on Tuesday 12th December at home to Falkirk.
