Dundee Reserves played their second match of the Reserve League season as they travelled to Airdrie to take on Airdrieonians at the Excelsior Stadium.

The squad was made up of the club’s development squad giving these players the opportunity to continue progress. After an impressive performance against East Fife in the SPFL Trust Trophy in August Ruaridh Lynch returned in goal. Marley Sweenie-Rowe, Luke Graham and Ewan Murray who are all currently out on loan at part-time SPFL teams had the opportunity to get more minutes under their belts.

Jamie Richardson had the first opportunity of the match for The Dee as he managed to get a shot away, but this was deflected away by the home goalkeeper.

In the 33rd minute of the match, Airdrieonians had the ball in the back of the net but the linesman had his flag up and the goal was ruled out for offside. The home side had another two chances in the half but The Dee defence stood firm.

Dundee started the second half quickly as Crowther drove forward and managed to get a shot away but fired over the bar. On the hour mark Lorimer found space and took a shot but it too went over the bar. Dundee’s best chance came in the 63rd minute as Sweenie-Rowe delivered a cross into the box which was headed down by Mohammed who looked for Craik but he couldn’t quite meet the ball.

Dundee then made two changes with Mohammed and Barnett coming off and were replaced by Donald and Allan.

In the 75th minute, The Dee were reduced to 10 men as Ewan Murray received a second yellow card. Airdrieonians looked to take advantage of their extra man and came close minutes later as Dunlop rattled the bar with a shot. Dundee managed to hold out for the remainder of the match to leave Airdrie with a point.

Dundee Reserves now have four points in the cinch Reserve league after two matches.
