Greg and Kane up for PFA POTY

Today in Glasgow it was announced that Kane Hemmings and Greg Stewart have both been nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year.

For Greg, it is the second consecutive season he has been nominated by his fellow players for the award, while Kane’s path has taken a slightly different route since both players were teammates at Cowdenbeath.

In 2014, Kane picked up the top award in the SPFL Championship, beating off competition from nominees Dundee striker Peter MacDonald and current teammate Rory Loy who was with Falkirk at the time.

With Greg already tied up with a pre-contract agreement, Paul Hartley tried to reunite the pair at Dens but with Kane choosing to have a crack down South, the manager would have to wait to see him in Dark Blue.

Greg joined up at Dens and under the guidance of the manager became a house hold name in Scotland during his first season in the top flight.

His form saw him nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year by his fellow pros, with eventual winner Stefan Johansen and nominee Virgil van Djik both telling the media at the nominees press event that they had voted for the Dundee man to win the award.

If his first nomination was somewhat of a surprise after a good first season in the top flight, this nomination confirms Greg place as one of the top players in the country, a fitting reward for another season which has seen him shine in Dark Blue.

While Dundee and Greg were flying high on the return to the top flight and eventually finishing in the top six, Paul Hartley was already thinking ahead to the new season. Kane Hemmings returned to the thoughts and this time the manager got his man, Kane agreeing a pre-contract before the season was out.

Kane and Greg have both been in fantastic form this season, netting 36 goals between them so far.

To have two players nominated for the prestigious award is a proud moment for the Club.

The winner will be announced on Sunday 1st May at PFA Scotland’s annual Awards Dinner in Glasgow.

Greg has also been nominated for PFA Scotland Goal of the Season for his goal against Ross County at Dens and can be voted for at the following link – http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11096/10257714
