Raith Rovers | Match Preview

It is a quick turnaround for the team after Saturday’s game away to Arbroath as we take on Raith Rovers on Tuesday night at the Kilmac stadium. Saturday’s nil-nil draw at Arbroath saw us return to the top of the Cinch Championship on goal difference. Tuesday night’s game provides us with the opportunity to extend our lead at the top having played one less game than Queen’s Park, Partick Thistle, and Ayr Unitedwho currently sit in the play-off positions. In order to extend the lead manager Gary Bowyer will be looking for the players to take their chances in the final third after saying on Saturday, “We had some great opportunities on the counter but our decision-making wasn’t as good as it was last week.

Standing in the way on Tuesday night is Raith Rovers. Since March Raith’s form has been very up and down, they have played seven games, five in the league and two in the cup, and have won two and lost five. Their two wins came at home firstly to Cove Rangers who they thrashed 6-1 and then an impressive 2-0 victory against Queens Park. They lost their two cup games, to Rangers at Ibrox in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup and then to Hamilton in the final of the Challenge Cup. Their three league defeats in this time came away to Partick Thistle, home to Hamilton, and then on Saturday where they lost 2-0 to Inverness. They currently sit in seventh position in the league and will be looking to take points and close the gap on the teams currently ahead of them.

We last met Raith in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup at the start of February, where the match ended 2-2 before Rovers progressed on penalties. The league meeting at the start of the year in January also saw the match end in a draw. Before that Dundee had triumphed in the first two league meetings of the season, winning 1-0 at Stark’s Park in August and 2-0 at home in November.

Team News

Cammy Kerr has returned to training after missing Saturday through illness. Striker Zach Robinson will be assessed before the game on Tuesday night.

The Manager’s thoughts

“Saturday was hard fought, if you look at the number of games Arbroath have drawn this season that was 14, it shows you how competitive they are. I thought we stood up to the challenge well. I think we had the better of the chances in the first half and couldn’t quite get the goal but then we showed a different side to us that really impressed me, the mentality and how we stood up to Arbroath’s set plays. We know as a group we needed to be a little bit better in the final third, but on those particular days and in these conditions it is important you take something away from the game and we did and we got a clean sheet.

“The backing from the fans on Saturday was brilliant, we were disappointed at the end of the game when we couldn’t send them home with a victory, but it wasn’t through lack of effort from the players.

“Pierre is a great kid, he wants to learn, he wants to get better and he has the ability, he’s got this attacking flare where he can go past people. He’s worked hard and been patient, and we’re delighted to get his clearance through and get him on the pitch. He gives us options across the whole front line, he can play on the left, he can play on the right, he can play in behind the striker and he has got a real hard-working attitude.

“It will be another tough game, it’s the Championship. I like Ian Murray and his team, the way they play and they’ve got some good footballers that can hurt you. But it’s all about us, how we go about it, we’ve got to go and back up the point we earnt on Saturday and make it even better and get three points.”

Pierre Reedy’s thoughts

“I am delighted to sign for such a big club like Dundee, with great supporters and a great squad. I was really happy to finally get out there on Saturday, and I’m just hoping I can help in whatever way the team needs for the last couple of games for the end of the year.

“Part of my decision to come over here was just to play at the highest level I can and to be challenged day in and day out.  Hopefully, we can finish this year strong and get the club back to where it belongs in the Premiership.

“We just take it game by game and carry on the momentum and hopefully we put in another solid result, get another three points, and finish strong.”
