Ayr United | Match Preview

After Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to Partick Thistle, we are back in action three days later, this time at home to Ayr United. It’s a 7.45 pm kick-off at the Kilmac Stadium on Tuesday night as we welcome Ayr United. Just as it was on Saturday, it is second versus third in the cinch Championship, Ayr’s 2-0 win against Hamilton on Saturday takes them up to third as they overtook Thistle in the league.

This will be the fourth league meeting of the sides this season, with Dundee winning the last two meetings. Back in December Dundee triumphed 2-0 at Somerset Park and the last time Ayr visited Dundee in October we won 2-1.

In Ayr’s last five league matches, they have won two, drawn one, and lost two. Before their win on Saturday away to Hamilton, they made it to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup before being defeated by League One Falkirk. Ayr know that a win on Tuesday night will see them go into second place.

Cammy Kerr will still be missing on Tuesday night.

The Manager’s thoughts

“We’ve got to perform better in the final third than we did on Saturday, we’ll go and have a real go at Ayr and see where that gets us.

“We’ve got unbelievable belief and confidence in the group and what we have to do is back that up with performances and results. There’s a long way to go, all we can do is control how we perform throughout the week and how we go about it on a matchday.

“It will be competitive, it will be a challenge again, but one we are going to stand up to and have a real go at them.”

Luke McCowan

“It will be tough, we know what they can bring and what they can offer but we just need to put our best on the table against them.

“The belief will not go until it is mathematically impossible, we’ll go right till the very end and the belief won’t stop in the changing room. The message from the gaffer is just to keep focussing on ourselves and the next game.”
