Arbroath | Match Preview

April got off to the best possible start for Dundee, winning 7-0 at home to Hamilton Accies and the feel good factor continued this week with Gary Bowyer being named the Glen’s Vodka Championship Manager of the Month for March. Attention is now very much on the weekend and our fixture against Arbroath, where the team will be determined to keep the momentum going. However, standing in the way are Arbroath who themselves have momentum with them after winning their last two matches.

Last week saw them beat Ayr United, 2-0 at Gayfield and the week before that they were away to Queens Park where they triumphed 1-0. Two wins against teams at the higher end of the league, whereas Arbroath currently find themselves in eighth position but these two wins could be what keeps them in the Championship come the end of the season. As well as winning their last two matches, they previously drew their last four, meaning Arbroath are unbeaten in their last six matches, with their last defeat coming against Raith Rovers on 4thFebruary.

Saturday’s match will be the fourth league meeting of the season. The teams last met in the first game of 2023 on January 2nd where Arbroath came to the Kilmac stadium and won 4-2. The first meeting of the season in August also ended 4-2 but on that occasion in favour of Dundee. The other meeting at Gayfield in October saw the points shared, in a 1-1 draw.

Team News

After going off injured against Hamilton, striker Zach Robinson is slowly progressing but will be assessed before Saturday. Max Anderson and Lorent Tolaj will miss Saturday’s game with the latter returning to Brighton to have his recent injury assessed by his parent club. Ben Williamson and Cammy Kerr have returned to training this week.

The Manager’s thoughts

From Saturday there are still aspects of the game that we feel we can still improve on and we want to improve and get better. It obviously all fell into place with the number of goals we scored on Saturday but we still felt there were opportunities to increase our lead further and we’ve spoken about that this week.

“We’ve got 10 points out of the last 12, the confidence has been very good and our job this week has been to work on the things we still feel we need to improve on.

“I think Arbroath have done really well recently but it doesn’t surprise me with the players they’ve got and the manager the way he is, but we know what to expect going there on Saturday.

“There is a good feeling about the place that’s for sure, but we know there is a lot of football still to play and we’ve got to keep pushing and demanding loads from the players.

“As I’ve said before the fans are going to play a big part in pushing us further and we hope that continues on Saturday as well. “

Lyall Cameron’s thoughts

“Saturday against Hamilton was a statement that we needed to make in the league. We’ve had a good belief at the club throughout the season, I know we haven’t run away with it or been at the top throughout the season but we’ve got the chance to do that now. We just need to take our chances in the league.”

“Arbroath are never an easy team to play against, they will have confidence after some really good results recently but we’ve got to try and take care of them and match them with hard work, and  hopefully let our quality take over.”
