Kilmarnock U20 Vs

Rory Loy played the full 90 minutes and grabbed a goal as Dundee under 20s moved up to 6th in the Development League with a 4-2 win away to Kilmarnock last night.

The striker was one of 6 changes that manager Jimmy Boyle made from last week’s defeat to Hamilton Accies.

David Mitchell replaced Calum Ferries between the sticks while Sam Dryden, Matty Allan, Kyle Clark and Taylor Berry all joined Loy in the starting eleven.

Dropping out were Nicky Low, Yordi Teijsse, last week’s Trialist who has now moved on from the club, and Matty Smyth and Ian Smith who both had a place on the bench.

Alongside them on the bench was a young trialist right back.

Dundee started the better of the teams and had the first chance of the match when Loy was played in on the left hand side of the box. He did well to get a shot away but the advancing Killie keeper Lyle was equal to it.

Killie’s first chance of the match can shortly after when the home side caught Dundee on the break and Morrison was played in, he looked likely to at least test Mitchell but dragged his shot wide.

After 15 minutes, Dundee took the lead through a composed finish by Jesse Curran. A Dryden long  throw from the right hand side caused all sorts of problems for the Killie defence and the attempted clearance fell to Curran only 7 yards from goal he took a touch before placing the ball high into the top corner.

It wasn’t long before Killie were back on level terms, a neat one two between Bojaj and Morrison saw the latter in space on the left hand side of the box. He curled home the ball to equalise for the Rugby Park side.

There wasn’t much else in the way of clearcut chances in the remaining period in of the first 45. Both teams probed away but neither could find a way through before the half time whistle.

That was all about to change early in the second half. Jimmy Boyle made a double substitution at the break with Ian Smith replacing Clark on the wing and Matty Smyth coming on in the middle of midfield in place of Berry.

Within two minute the subs had combined to put Dundee in front. Killie kicked off but after Dundee had gained possession of the ball and corner was won. Smith delivered and Smyth arrived to head home with his first touch of the match.

For the next period Dundee totally dominated, attacking with purpose and intent every time they went forward.

The game looked all but done 20 minutes into the second half, when Loy picked up an over hit free kick on the right hand side of the box, he cut back inside before beautifully placing the ball past Lyle from the edge of the box.

Shortly after, Killie found a way back into the contest, sub Whittaker’s cross found McLean in the middle who headed home.

That gave the home side something to build on and they put Dundee under pressure. David Mitchell had to be alert a number of times to thwart Kilmarnock attacks.

Just as the match was entering the final minutes it was put to bed by a fantastic strike. A Mitchell goal kick eventually dropped for Ian Smith 25 yards from goal and he thundered a dipping shot Lyle to secure the three points for Dundee.

Starting eleven – Mitchell, Dryden (Trialist), Quigley, Allan, Waddell, Curran, Clark (I. Smith), Berry (Smyth), Loy, M. Smith, Coupe.

Subs unused – Gourlay.
