Partick Thistle’s Season So Far

Partick’s season started off superbly winning all four of their Betfred Group matching, therefore qualifying for the knock out stage with 100% record before winning their first Ladbrokes Premiership match 2-0 at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

However a 3-1 defeat to Championship side Dundee United at Tannadice in the League Cup 2nd round signaled the start of a poor run of form, failing to win in their next eight league matches; drawing three and losing five.

They ended that run with back to back away wins in October in Dundee and Perth but have continued to flirt on and off with the bottom of the league ever since. They dropped to the bottom after a 4-1 defeat at home to Celtic but were then unlucky not to take someone at Celtic Park eleven days later and unlucky to only take a point at Tynecastle in between their two Celtic games.

However a superb 3-1 win in Dingwall against Ross County on December 23rd catapulted The Jags from 12th to 9th in the Premiership, highlighting the tightness of the league. They followed that up with their first top flight home win against Dundee since 1994 five days later and it was a result that put them into the top six for the first time.

Thistle have continued their good form since the winter break, knocking St Johnstone out of the Scottish Cup and coming to Dens on the back of three straight wins. The Jags sit just one point behind The Dee in sixth and will be looking to move back into the top half with their third midweek victory over Dundee this season.
