Fast Facts – Brechin

  • Brechin City were formed in 1906 with the merger of two local Junior clubs Brechin Harp and Brechin Hearts
  • Brechin were admitted to the Scottish League in 1923 with the formation of the original Third Division
  • Dundee first played Brechin on March 20th 1909 when The Dee defeated City 2-0 at Dens to win the Forfarshire Cup
  • Dundee’s first visit to Glebe Park was on March 12th 1921 when the sides drew 2-2 in a Forfarshire Cup semi-final
  • Dundee’s first competitive visit to Glebe Park was a Division Two match on February 11th 1939 which the home won 2-1
  • Dundee’s last competitive visit to Glebe Park was a League Cup tie in 2010 which City won on penalties after a 2-2 draw
  • Brechin City were promoted to the SPFL Championship last season after defeating Raith Rovers and Alloa Athletic in the play-offs
  • Brechin have won the third tier of Scottish Football on four occasions and the fourth tier once
  • Former Dees Doug Houston, Ian Fleming, Ian Redford and Jim Duffy have all managed Brechin
  • Dundee’s Craig Wighton was on loan at Brechin City during the 2014/15 season
