If you were to pick your top twenty Heroes and Legends of Dundee Football Club's proud history who would it be? Feel free to to justify why you picked anyone. With the recent passing of two Dundee Greats of the Championship side and with the 2010 Hall of Fame Dinner just around the corner, it got me thinking as to who I would pick as my top Heroes and Legends. I'm interested to see what others put before I pick mine. The criteria for going into DFC's Hall of Fame could well be different to who might be picked as a personal hero. |

Here goes:
1)"Sir" Bobby Cox: Mr Dundee through and through and the best captain we have ever had. 2)Alan Glizean: Too young to see him play but his goalrecord for Dundee speaks volumes. 3)Ian Ure: Truly great player. 4)Robert Douglas: One of the finest goalkeepers I have seen as a DFC supporter play for us. 5)Brian Irvine: Immense during his spell at Dens, was always a class defender. 6) Georgi Nemsadze: Great player to watch, always fondly remembered for that chip against United at Tannadice. 7)Barry Smith: Absolute true professional and legend at Dundee FC. 8)Jerry O'Driscoll: He used to be my favourite player in the mid 90's, scored a few goals. 9)Morten Weighorst: Fantastic player for us. 10)Fabian Caballero: Was a great player before he was injured, still good after but never the same. 11)Temuri Ketsbaia: Could hit a ball and scored a few crackers in his spell at Dundee. 12)Albert Kidd: Met him once, never actually saw him play, but seen clips. Nice guy. 13)James Grady: Quick, small and skillful, a great player for us who had an eye for goal. 14)Fabrizio Ravanelli: Although his stay was short, he was a class 15)Tommy Coyne: Great player who scored a bagful of goals during his time at Dundee. 16)Tosh McKinlay: Great player, down to earth and a really really nice guy. 17)Colin Hendry: Very much under-rated at Dens, but a very good player and a nice guy. 18)Claudio Cannigia: True professional and great player. 19)Nacho Novo: Quick, skillful and technically gifted, great wee player for us. 20)Beto Carranza: Nippy, skillful player

I wouldn't disagree with most of your choices SDB but can't believe you don't have Georgi Nemsadze in your list. My other additions would be:- Billy Pirie - the best goalscorer I have ever seen at Dens Ally Donaldson,Thomson Allan,Mike Hewitt and Julian Speroni - all fantastic goalkeepers Cammy Fraser - when Donald Mackay brought him to Dens we were in disarray and he single handedly turned the team around. He was the epitomy of the box to box player, constantly driving everyone on with no little skill and scoring many crucial goals. Watching the team now he is the type of player we are short of someone who will take responsibility and cajole, moan and when necessary bully his mates to victory.I will never forget him taunting Gordon Strachan right in his face when he scored the winner at Pitoddrie in the League Cup. |

Decided to put Nemsadze in after all in place of Leigh. Leigh will get a place on the list in the future, but having thought about it, I realised that not to have Nemsadze on the list was criminial.
It's a pity though because there are lots of players who didn't get onto this list that could have. |

Alan Gilzean Cammie Fraser Davie Johnstone Keith Wright Bobby Hutchison Tommy Coyne Morten Wieghorst Dariusz Adamczuk Georgi Nemszadze Dusan Vrto Ally Donaldson Barry Smith Bobby Cox Fabian Caballero John Brown Ray Stephens Noel Blake George Stewart John Duncan Eric Schaedler I've missed out a load of certs ie Cannigia, Rab Douglas, bobby Glennie but apart from Bobby Cox whom i never saw, as far as i remember and Alan Gilzean only for Spurs and scotland, i've a lot of memories of the rest. Could probably do about another 10 lists. |

Not in any order in particular but who I remember and loved during my time of watching Dundee (hence people like Bobby Cox, etc not being on the list but undoubtly Legends of our Club).
First ever favourite player - Billy Dodds - told him this quite a few years back drunk outside the Mardi and said I'd never forgive him for going to United and tried to get him to say he prefered Dundee anyway (which he did ;) )
Jerry O'Driscoll - Glad to see someone else mentioning him as well. Was the only girl at the Dundee Football Coaching Week a long time ago and said for that week I was his wee sister and he'd look after me with Roy McBain - haha! Lovely guy and great striker for us.
George Shaw, Dusan Vrto, Michel Pageout (sp), Noel Blake (will never forget him headbutting the ball in the dressing room before I went out with him as Mascot against Caledonian Thistle - scared the living daylights out of me!!), Neil McCann, Morten Weighorst, Darius Adamczuk, Brian Irvine, Jarvier Artero, Georgi Nemsadze, Juan Sara and the best keeper I've ever seen at Dens, Julian Speroni - never forget THAT save against Aberdeen at Dens. Amazing.
Last but not least....James Grady. Although he broke my heart by going to United.....and I don't really feel the same about my "hero" anymore hahaha! |
